Here is a shot taken on April 25th 2011 of the flooding south of Winnipeg.  You can see how the road heading SW essentially disappears into the water.

New airplane smell. 04/04/2011

Up until my current job I have only flown older airplanes.  At the age of 26 I flew a deHavilland Beaver that was manufactured in the 1940s and was 52 years old -- twice my age.  The deHavilland Beavers and Otters I flew were from the 40's, 50's and 60's and the Twin Otters spanned the 60's, 70's and 80's.  Today I am fortunate to be flying new airplanes and, in some cases, brand new airplanes.  Today I flew an airplane with only 66 landings on it -- brand new!  It smelled just like a new car and, for $50 million, one might expect that new car smell.  These aircraft fly in the vicinity of 3,000 hours a year so this aircraft had only been online for a couple weeks.

223 hours and 66 landings on the aircraft.

I downloaded a new time-lapse app for my iPhone so I hope to add some aviaiton related time lapse movies to the site.  One has to be patient -- I calculate that I will need to take pictures for over six hours to get five minutes of time-lapse video!  Stay tuned.

This picture of the Rockies was taken at night with a full moon.  It is always amazing how well one can see at night under these conditions.

A five day pairing. 11/18/2010

I thought it would be neat to plot a five day pairing on a map.  This pairing was busier than most in that we had 17 legs over the five days and it was worth 28.5 hours of flying (37% of my month's credit).

Flying over the USA. 11/15/2010

Today I added some new images of the USA (More USA under Scenery).  The scenery is fascinating with snow covered mountains to the Great Salt Lake and the Mojave Desert.  The area or Utah, Nevada, California and Arizona makes for great photographs with intricate colours and textures.  Even from the high altitude of an airliner, the pictures are detailed and unique.
